Economics Association Organizes Fiery Debate (30.8.24)
Economics Association of PCM S.D College for Women, Jalandhar, organized a Debate Competition. It was hosted by the Post Graduate Department of Economics. The topic of the debate was "Balanced vs. Unbalanced Growth: Which Path is Better for Developing Countries?" The session was marked by fervent enthusiasm and a lively exchange of ideas. 

The faculty members of the Department lauded the students’ dedication, noting the depth of research and the clarity of thought demonstrated throughout the competition. The event not only honed the participants’ analytical and public speaking skills but also encouraged them to engage critically with complex economic issues. A total of seven students from B.A., B.Sc. (Economics), and B.A. B.Ed. participated with great enthusiasm. The debaters demonstrated a deep understanding of the topic, presenting well-rounded arguments. Arpita, Chandni, and Supreet from B.Sc. (Economics) Semester V, along with Mamta from B.A. Semester V, argued in favor of balanced growth, while Prachi and Amisha from B.A. B.Ed. Semester V, and Sapna from B.A. Semester V, advocated for unbalanced growth. The faculty members of the department appreciated the hard work and dedication of all the participants, commending them for delivering an informative and dynamic debating session.
Selection of Office Bearers for Economics Association (13.9.24)
Faculty members of the department held an interaction with the students of economics from all streams to select office bearers and executive members of the Economics Association. Students were chosen on the basis of their confidence level, previous participation record and willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities in future.
The students showed a keen interest and elaborated on the activities in which they would like to participate such as quiz, declamation, debate, article writing etc. As these extra-curricular activities play a vital role in the overall personality development of students. Therefore, faculty encouraged the students to actively participate in the various activities of the economics department.

Investiture Ceremony of Office Bearers of Economics Association (21.9.24)
Economics Association of PCM S.D College for women, Jalandhar organized Investiture Ceremony on 21, September 2024, at 02:20 pm in Principal’s office in which twenty students were adorned with badges representing various acclaimed offices.
This ceremony has a far-reaching impact in inculcating a sense of responsibility and belongingness among the students. The badges encourage the students to adopt discipline in their daily life and bringing out and polishing their leadership skills. Madam Principal, Dr Pooja Prashar, pinned the badges to the attires of the highly zealous student.
Department organized an educative and entertaining Quiz Competition (5.10.24)
A Quiz Competition was organized on 5th October 2024 1:40 p.m. onwards in room no. 13. Total 13 students of B.A., B.Sc. and B.A.-B.Ed. Economics participated in quiz. The event brought together four enthusiastic teams which showed their knowledge and teamwork.
The quiz competition featured four rounds including Microeconomics, Development Economics, Statistics and General knowledge. Each question was designed to test the participants’ knowledge, critical thinking, presence of mind and teamwork. The event was conducted with fair rules and time limits to maintain a competitive and friendly atmosphere. After a fierce battle first place was secured by Team B comprising Umme Habiba of B.A. Sem I, Anshita of B.A. Sem III and Chandni of B.Sc. (Economics) Sem V.
Students put up a grand show in Rangoli Making and Case Study Competitions (10.10.24)
To hone the creative skills of the students, Economics Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized Rangoli making Competition in P.G Department of Economics and Case study via pictures in MBEIT Lab on the theme of Viksit Bharat on 10th October 2024 at 11:40 pm in Break. Seven pairs of students participated in rangoli making competition and in case study via pictures also there were seven entries.



Students do wonders in Food Challenge (14.10.24)
Economics Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized ‘’Food Challenge” Competition on the theme of "Unity in Diversity” in P.G Department of Economics at 11:40 pm in Break on 14th October 2024. A total 10 students participated in this competition who prepared different dishes of different states and presented them in creative ways. Students also told the faculty members about their dishes and various stories. tradition, etc. associated with these.


Budget Live Screening (1.2.25)
Economics Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar held the
Live Screening of the National Budget on 1st February 2025 at 11 a.m. in MBEIT
lab for economics students across all classes. It was an engaging and
educational event to provide students with a deeper understanding of the
national budget and its implications. The live screening helped students grasp
key provisions regarding allocations and policy measures proposed by the
government. The event also served as a platform for students to enhance their
civic engagement, critical thinking, and awareness of economic and political
affairs. Students of classes B. A. and B.Sc. (Economics) and MBEIT attended the
event.
Poster Making Competition (28.2.25)
Economics Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized a poster-making competition on “New Business Ideas” in collaboration
with the Institution's Innovation Cell on 28th February 2025 at 11.40 a.m. in
MBEIT lab. The event saw participation from seven students of B.Sc. Economics
and MBEIT. One student-created poster showcasing their innovative handmade
embroidery hoops business. The poster featured subtle fabric patterns and
images of beautifully crafted embroidery hoops with unique designs, alongside
customizable greeting cards with personal messages and illustrations. Another
student presented poster featuring a family kitchen showcasing homemade meals
and traditional recipes. A range of innovative ventures including, nail art
venture with stunning designs, digital marketing services focusing on modern
strategies and social media, and a resin art business displaying handcrafted
pieces like jewelry and coasters were displayed by the students. The posters
reflected their multifaceted talents and entrepreneurial spirit, which is very
essential for fueling innovation, economic development, and job creation.
ICSSR Sponsored One Day National Seminar (29.3.25)
The
Department of Economics at PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully
organized an ICSSR-sponsored National Seminar on the theme "Sustaining
Growth with Equity: Roadmap for Development of Entrepreneurship in Punjab."
The seminar served as an insightful platform for academicians, policymakers,
and industry experts to deliberate on strategies for fostering equitable growth
and entrepreneurship in the region.
The
event commenced with a green welcome for the distinguished guests, reaffirming
the college’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Principal Dr. Pooja
Prashar extended a warm welcome to all attendees, lauding the Department of
Economics for initiating such a significant academic endeavor. Dr. Divya
Budhia, Head of the Department of Economics and Convenor of the Seminar,
delivered the inaugural address, setting the stage for meaningful discussions. The
keynote address was delivered by Professor Anjali Mehra, Head of the School of
Social Sciences and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at Guru Nanak Dev
University, Amritsar. She underscored the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in
economic growth and reducing income disparities. The
seminar featured two engaging technical sessions with eminent speakers from
academia and industry.

Session I included:

Neelam Mahay, Deputy Director, District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises,
Jalandhar, who provided insights into various government initiatives and
schemes available for entrepreneurs.
Professor
Tushinder Preet Kaur, Assistant Dean of Economics, Mittal School of Business,
Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, who elaborated on the role of digital
transformation in ensuring business sustainability.
Technical
Session II featured:
Mr.
Mohd. Suhail, Founder, Athar Packaging Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Delhi, who shared
his inspiring entrepreneurial journey, emphasizing resilience, innovation, and
adaptability as key factors for success in the business world.
The
seminar concluded with a valedictory session, where Professor Falendra Kumar
Sudan, from the Department of Economics, University of Jammu, delivered the
valedictory address. He provided a comprehensive analysis of Punjab’s economic
landscape and stressed the need for inclusive growth strategies that bridge the
rural-urban divide while creating sustainable employment opportunities.
With
over 50 research papers contributed by scholars, the seminar witnessed vibrant
academic discussions. To commemorate the event, a book encapsulating the
research and deliberations on the seminar’s theme was released, further
enriching academic discourse on sustainable growth and entrepreneurship.
Article Writing Competition (16.4.25)
Economics Association of PCM S.D College for
Women, Jalandhar organized Article Writing Competition on 16th April
2025 at 11.30 a.m. in room no. 13. The competition was organized with the aim
of encouraging creative expression and enhancing writing skills among students.
The theme of the competition was based on Economics, and it saw enthusiastic
participation from students across various classes. The participants showcased
their talent through insightful and well-articulated articles, covering a wide
range of topics related to the theme. The Article Writing Competition was a
resounding success, achieving its goal of fostering creativity and promoting
writing culture among students. It provided a valuable platform for
participants to express their thoughts and ideas on relevant issues. Kasak from B.Sc. Economics Sem IV Secured First
position in Article Writing Competition.
Felicitation Ceremony (17.4.25)
Economics Association of PCM S.D College for Women, Jalandhar P.G Department of Economics of PCM S.D College
for Women, Jalandhar, conducted a Felicitation Ceremony on 17th
April, 2025, near the Main Stage in the College. The event was graced by
Principal Prof. (Dr.) Pooja Prashar, who presented trophies and certificates to
the students for their hard work and year-round dedication to the Department of
Economics. 15 students of economics were recognized and awarded for their
contributions. The ceremony honored students who had participated in various
activities of the Department through various Competitions. Madam Principal, in
her address, emphasized the importance of the values instilled by the college,
encouraging students to remember these values as they strive for success in
their future endeavors.
