 ICSSR Sponsored One Day National Seminar (29.3.25)

The Department of Economics at PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, successfully organized an ICSSR-sponsored National Seminar on the theme "Sustaining Growth with Equity: Roadmap for Development of Entrepreneurship in Punjab." The seminar served as an insightful platform for academicians, policymakers, and industry experts to deliberate on strategies for fostering equitable growth and entrepreneurship in the region. 


The event commenced with a green welcome for the distinguished guests, reaffirming the college’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Principal Dr. Pooja Prashar extended a warm welcome to all attendees, lauding the Department of Economics for initiating such a significant academic endeavor. Dr. Divya Budhia, Head of the Department of Economics and Convenor of the Seminar, delivered the inaugural address, setting the stage for meaningful discussions. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Anjali Mehra, Head of the School of Social Sciences and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She underscored the pivotal role of entrepreneurship in economic growth and reducing income disparities. The seminar featured two engaging technical sessions with eminent speakers from academia and industry.

 Technical Session I included:

 Smt. Neelam Mahay, Deputy Director, District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises, Jalandhar, who provided insights into various government initiatives and schemes available for entrepreneurs.

Professor Tushinder Preet Kaur, Assistant Dean of Economics, Mittal School of Business, Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, who elaborated on the role of digital transformation in ensuring business sustainability.

Technical Session II featured:

Mr. Mohd. Suhail, Founder, Athar Packaging Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Delhi, who shared his inspiring entrepreneurial journey, emphasizing resilience, innovation, and adaptability as key factors for success in the business world.

The seminar concluded with a valedictory session, where Professor Falendra Kumar Sudan, from the Department of Economics, University of Jammu, delivered the valedictory address. He provided a comprehensive analysis of Punjab’s economic landscape and stressed the need for inclusive growth strategies that bridge the rural-urban divide while creating sustainable employment opportunities.

With over 50 research papers contributed by scholars, the seminar witnessed vibrant academic discussions. To commemorate the event, a book encapsulating the research and deliberations on the seminar’s theme was released, further enriching academic discourse on sustainable growth and entrepreneurship.
